Quick Book Review! (No Spoilers) Today I finished Quick Book Review! (No Spoilers)

Today I finished Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb.

This is one of those books I've known about for a long time but never got round to reading, until now! It has an interesting style, being one of few books I've read that is written in the first person, which initially took me a while to get into. However, the tale of Fitz is both interesting and engaging enough that it kept my interest throughout.

I did feel that there was some slow pacing, but the character development was strong enough that I didn't mind the slow-burn plot, but it came together quickly at the end. Apart from one big plot point that seemed to not be resolved (though I know it is the first in a trilogy, so I assume it is in the sequels!)

Overall, I would recommend it and will definitely be checking out the sequels that make up the Farseer trilogy!

Is Assassin's Apprentice on your TBR? Or have you already read it? Let me know your thoughts!

Quick Review - Before They Are Hanged by Joe Aberc Quick Review - Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie (no spoilers)

I finished this book yesterday, and have to say it is fast becoming one of my favourite series I've read recently.

The book has great characters, which is its strongest points for sure, with several being favourites (Glokta, Ninefingers, Ferro, Dogman...) and this means you enjoy each chapter regardless of which POV you're following.

The plot definitely develops nicely from the first, which felt more like a prologue at the time of reading but makes this book much better as you know the characters well straight away.

I can't wait to get into the third and final book of the trilogy, but before that, I have a few others to get through on my TBR. The first of which is Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobbs, another trilogy that I'm looking forward to getting into!

What's our favourite trilogy? Let me know!

Release day! I'm so excited to be able to announc Release day!

I'm so excited to be able to announce that this Cyberpunk anthology I have a story in is officially out!

As one of the fifteen indie cyberpunk writers featured in this collection, it's so amazing to see it 'in the wild.' The collection gives you a mix of tales based on the Cyberpunk genre, each with the author's unique take.

My story 'Requiem' tells the tale of a young synthwave DJ who upgrades his Synth-rig with some interesting repercussions...

If you fancy reading some short 'high tech-low life' cyberpunk madness, and if you want to support some awesome indie writers, grab yourself a copy! Links, as always, in Bio ⤴️ ☺️

Happy Burns Night! We do enjoy a nice Haggis and Happy Burns Night!

We do enjoy a nice Haggis and Scotch on Burns Night to celebrate the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns who wrote, among other things, Auld Lang Syne.

Do you celebrate it? And have you tried haggis?

Reading Update! I'm midway through Before They Ar Reading Update!

I'm midway through Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie, and I have to say I'm loving it so far. As much as I enjoyed the first book in The First Law Trilogy (The Blade Itself), I'm finding this one to be even better, with more plot and 'things' happening at a swift pace! As with the first book, Glokta is still a favourite character, though Dogman and Ninefingers are probably up there too!

I am hoping to finish it this week and looking forward to getting into the last book after a couple of others in between.

If you've read the books, who was your favourite character? (Though no spoilers, please!!!)

Quick(Ish) Review of Gardens Of The Moon by Steven Quick(Ish) Review of Gardens Of The Moon by Steven Erikson ⚔️ (No Spoilers)

I finished this last night and wanted to give it a little time to sink in.

I really enjoyed the book, the world feels to me what when people say 'epic fantasy' actually mean, with lands that are much larger than you see but feel real within the world, and you are seeing the events through a narrow lens of a handful of characters in one area of that massive world.

Now, this handful of characters is a large handful with many POVs, which, potentially, can be confusing, but I found it much less daunting than I had been led to believe, or perhaps I am more comfortable knowing I don't know everything just yet in the grand scheme of the series. Regardless, there are some great characters and interactions within, and I felt each had enough time to be realised.

The only real negative for the books was the last section did feel a little rushed, with some parts flashing past that I did need to double-check the events and action to follow it, but this is minor and again, letting the journey be part of the experience was a good mindset to have in this regard.

Overall, I would recommend the book, but only if you feel ready to continue through the series as alone it leaves many questions which, I hope, will be unveiled as I continue on the read-along with @zepp1978's Warband.

My next book to read is going to be:

'Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie' (which if read as a sentence alone is a little disturbing!).

What are you currently reading? Let me know!

A little Dark Tower collection has begun! As it'l A little Dark Tower collection has begun!

As it'll be one of the main series I read this year, along with Malazan, I've managed to get the first four books of Stephen King's Dark Tower series from the same set. I have to admit, I was surprised at how big Wizard & Glass is!

I'm hoping to source the remaining few to complete the set, though I plan on reading IT, The Stand, and Salem's Lot in between these, so I don't 'need' them just yet!

Have you read The Dark Tower? Which is your favourite from the series? (no Spoilers, please and thank you!) and do you have a favourite book set you own?

Midway check-in on Gardens of the Moon by Steven E Midway check-in on Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson.

I'm just past the halfway mark in this book, which I'm reading much faster than I thought I would, which probably tells you all you need to know!

It is epic in all the right ways so far from setting, to characters and plotlines. The impression of it being overwhelming that I think puts people off hasn't been my experience so far, in so much as I accept the things I don't know yet and enjoying things being revealed slowly.

Thank you to the legendary @zepp1978 for arranging his read-along, which inspired me to read it! I'm in for the long haul ⚔️

Have you read it? How did you find it?

P.S. The whiskey is @woodfordreserve
